Subject: I now have control over my two dogs!

Both dogs are very loving, fun and loyal but I've had to get a dog behaviourist out in the past as Molly's a rescue dog, has a nervous disposition and a habit of going bonkers through fear by barking, growling and trying to nip/bite. I think she was abused before I got her as she is extremely scared of children and doesn't particularly like strangers and other dogs. She loves the family and those she knows but it was/is really worrying so the fear biting section has been great for tips on dealing with that.

They know now who's the alpha and don't try nearly as much nonsense as they used to. Obviously I'm not expecting them to change overnight, I realise I have to be rigorous in the re-training but so far they're coming along great!

I really wish I'd heard/got the Secrets to Dog Training books years ago, in my opinion no dog owner should be without a copy. They're brilliant, very easy to understand/follow and they results are amazing! Please find attached my photo of myself and the dogs."

How to take care of your dog's health

Take care of the dog is something very important to remain healthy environment does not become carriers of the disease and this may adversely affect your health and the health of your children
Here are some dog health care tips to be used when dealing with worms, fleas or various poisons the dog comes into contact. Puppies need de-worming as early as two or three weeks with the procedure repeated at four or six weeks of age. Dog health care specialists claim that worm immunity in puppies does not appear sooner than six months of age, and the worm larvae pass from mother to puppies. In order to meet the dog health care requirements you need to remove all stools from your garden, keep the lawn cut short and make sure you feed your dog on thoroughly cooked meat.

Fleas are the next dog health care problem under discussion here, and to a certain extent they are responsible for the possible tapeworms they may carry. Fleas and lice are easy to deal with; thanks to the many shampoos, collars or special drops, this dog health care issue has become piece of cake. Do not use human shampoo to wash your dog as it will completely degrease the fur and afterwards the dogs skin would have to secret even more oil to compensate for the deficit. Anti-flea sprays, powders, collars or any other products can be purchased from any dog health care store. However, it is good to ask the vet in the first place too.

Make sure that you keep your dog away from any potentially harmful substances that may lead to poisoning. Dog health care specialists point out that rapid intervention in the poisoning cases is crucial for saving the animals life. If you think your dog may have ingested some toxic chemical, try to give it some fresh milk as a first aid measure and call your vet immediately.

If you live in a tick prone area, be sure to keep a tick collar on your dog at all times. Mark the renewal date on the calendar so you don't forget to renew it. Your pet's life may depend on it! Grass ticks cause itchy lumps that can become infected when scratched. If not removed quickly, the paralysis tick can cause death in three to five days.

If your dog seems to suddenly have weak back legs and falls over often, inspect it immediately for a tick and get it to the vet as soon as possible. Luckily, the tick vaccine works well and quickly and can save a dog that looks like it is gasping its last breath. In the next time I will present a wonderful collection of very useful tips to care for dog and cats also

The ideal token of love for your precious pet

here are specialized web sites featuring boutiques for pets and pet lovers. Symbolic Swarowsky crystal charms seem to make the perfect birthday present for our cats and dogs. We can also pick one of the unique aromatic bandanas and of course, chic pet accessories and collars.

Among the hand-made products, we can find exclusive item lines like meaningful charms, engraved on the back side with identification, containing Celtic and Feng Shui elements for protection, luck, harmony, longevity, and loyalty. And because the bond between a man and his pet is, above all, a spiritual one, Mandala charms might just be the perfect choice to reinforce the bonds with nature and the universe and the healing gemstones jewelry for enhanced relaxation, health and well-being.

Just in case we might feel left out, we also have the opportunity to purchase exquisite items for us as well to go perfectly with our pet's accessories: fashionable bags, meaningful jewelry, bracelets and collar necklace and a wide variety of gemstone jewelry. Some designers offer their exclusive items at wholesale rates to qualified resellers. Pet jewelry and accessories are in popular demand at pet stores, boutiques, shows, events, private groomers, trainers and veterinarians!

And because I mentioned about Feng Shui, I would like to tell you more about its meaning and benefits for both us and our pets, but also for those pet lovers raising one eyebrow as they are reading this article.

Feng Shui is based on the five vital elements: water, fire, earth, wood, and metal. Each Feng Shui element has unique properties that interact with each other. Each element is associated with a color, season, shape, compass direction, taste and organ of the body. This theory is applied not just to object arrangement of living spaces, but also to Chinese medicine and astrology!

For example, water can be both calming and tranquil (as in a gentle stream or placid lake), or violent and destructive (as in a flood). Water elements in the home renew the flow of chi and rejuvenate the body and spirit. Fire represents creativity and enthusiasm. This is a powerful element that should be used moderately, as too much may suppress chi rather than strengthening or increasing it. Earth is symbolized by a firm foundation of balance and logic. This element should also be used conservatively, as too much will stifle the flow of energy. Wood enhances creativity, innovation, self-actualization and strong, sustainable energy. Metal stands for wealth and prosperity. This element promotes wisdom, mental strength and maturity.

The art of Feng Shui balances each element so that the positive energy, known as "chi", can flow. So, why don't you give your beloved pet all the chi he/she can get? Go with the “flow”!

Your Dogs Intelligence - Could Dogs Be Smarter than Their Owners?

The intelligence of the dog is among the highest of all the animals, maybe higher than we give him credit for. Although his brain is proportionately only half as large as ours, he is certainly the most intelligent of domestic animals.

As with humans, individual intelligence varies greatly according to inherited genes. While no one breed can be said to be more intelligent that another, some breeds that have been selectively bred for work ability are often brighter and more receptive than those bred primarily for purely physical attributes.

Whether a dog is a mixed breed for purebred, studies have shown that neither is much more intelligent than the other. However, dogs that have been exposed to a more varied lifestyle, both indoors and out, and with both human and animal interaction, does show more intelligent behavior.

Simply put, giving your dog an opportunity to investigate and manipulate all sorts of objects, to explore all sorts of places, to share all sorts of experiences with you will stimulate his or her intelligence. Aside from getting a lot more out of life, your dog will be eager to learn more and he will learn with increasing ease and rapidity. Nothing is sadder and more wasteful than an intelligent dog that is confined in a kennel and deprived of mental stimulation.

Despite opinions to the contrary, dogs are endowed with an elementary reasoning power. Anyone who has ever owned a dog has often seen him size up a situation and then taken some logical action. Guide dogs for the blind, as well as working and hunting dogs of many breeds constantly have to use their judgment and make decisions.

Memory is an important component of intelligence. The dog's memory for scents is extraordinary. His visual memory is only fair, but his memory for sounds is very good, since he can remember and identify familiar voices even after an absence of many years. While he builds up a large store of identifiable sounds without the slightest effort, remembering different words requires more concentration.

The dog's capacity for learning is more a matter of memory than of true understanding. He will remember the sequence of cause and effect in his actions, but he is unable to draw broad conclusions from his experience. The greater the variety of experiences and contact with others they have, the quicker they learn, and the more they retain.

Dogs are bound by nature to remain intellectually inferior to man, but we owe them a chance to develop their native intelligence by training, teaching, and working with them as much and as often as we can.

The American Mixed Breed Obedience Registration or (AMBOR) on the other hand was created in 1983 with the objective of taking into accounts the perseverance and accolades in obedience contests of mix breed dogs and handlers. This dog lovers club also gives support and inspiration to dog handlers.

Important Information for Members:

1. Mixed-breeds

There should be front and side photo shots of the dog that will be included in the application. This is the ticket to all the obedience and agility programs, automatic tabulation in the agility and obedience nationwide ranking system. This also includes a given eligibility for the annual awards.

This achievement will be given honor in AMBOR highlights (AMBOR’S newsletter) and on the website. The member will be eligible to any agility and obedience national competition in the future. Dogs with assigned numbers are marked as purebred and should be enlisted as a purebred. Also, dogs that are listed as mixed-breeds that are given a number based on the owner’s application causes its membership to be changed to a status of a purebred.

2. Purebreds

Purebred dogs can be listed with AMBOR with a rule that entry is limited to the AMBOR-supported agility program. All dogs that are purebred, listed with AMBOR and exhibits AMBOR-supported programs on agility will have competition points monitored and there will be an automatic issuance of certificates.

Dogs that are purebred and listed with AMBOR are not qualified to be a part of the agility and obedience scoring systems. They will also not be included in the website on highlights and not qualified for any mixed-breeds national competition in the future.

Handlers that register to the AMBOR-supported trials on agility should put their AMBOR number on the form at the club’s entrance so that competition points will be monitored.
